April Newsletter

Dear Family and Friends,

April 25, 2005 Grace and peace to you all. This year has been very full of activities. I will give an overview and then focus on a couple of special needs.

We have hosted four teams this year. Three new church buildings have been constructed and three more church buildings are under construction. Our newest construction project is the guest rooms on the Bible Institute Property. Les has traveled twice to Belize and once to Guatemala this year.

God has opened the door for 2 new works in Olancho, Honduras. Olancho is considered to be like the "wild west" of Honduras. It is almost like another mission field because of the distance - It takes as long to drive to Olancho as it does to El Salvador. Please join with us in prayer for dedicated workers for this area of Honduras.

The first trimester of the Bible Institute has ended. We have been spending most Monday's and Tuesday's there this year. Charlene has been teaching a Bible study class. It has been exciting to watch the students grow in Christ.

We would like to focus on the work in Belize. Since June of 2003 Les has been the supervisor for the work there. He traveled there three times last year and twice this year. The work in Belize has overcome some difficult times and is maturing. God is leading us to begin our Extension Bible Institute in Belize as an outreach of the work in Honduras.

Please pray with us as this important endeavor begins in June. We are hoping for 20 to 30 students. Rodolfo Benitez and another teacher from Honduras will be traveling to Belize every 2 months for the next 14 months to teach. This is a first for Belize in their endeavor to systematically train pastors and new leaders. Please pray with us for the needed finances for this. The total cost of this will be about $1500.00.

The government of Belize has been gradually changing the way they do business. It is now easier to obtain a clear title to a piece of property rather than just pay a yearly lease tax. We have several properties that need help in obtaining the clear title. The main advantage is that once it is paid that yearly lease does not have to be made. Also, the possibility of someone coming and offering to pay more for the property and essentially taking it away would no longer be a possibility. There are about 10 church properties that have this need. Each one will cost between $500 and $600 each. Please join with us in prayer for this need in Belize.

On Saturday Les attended the first meeting of the Belician National Board since the convention in February. They made a historic step of faith at the February convention forming 2 new districts, and leaving open the possibility of a third new district later this year. There were reports from all of the districts. Two new churches are beginning. Please pray with us that these new works will grow into churches.

We are doing well here in Honduras. Next month May 18 - 20 we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the work here in Honduras. Then we will be going to the States for the US Convention and to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

Please keep us in your prayers and write when you have an opportunity.

Yours for Missions,

Les ,Charlene Scott, Craig & Rosalie Melton
