Need for Prayer

Dear Family and Friends,

December 8, 2006

Bro. Vicente Martinez, the national superintendent of Guatemala, has been told this week that he has terminal invasive cancer.

Who is Vicente Martinez?  He is Superintendent of 238 churches in Guatemala. He pastors a church of over 1500 in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.  He is an awesome Preacher who can take Greek and make it meaningful in everyday Spanish.  He has been like an older brother to us (Les & Charlene).  He has traveled in a number of States as a guest speaker.  I wish you knew him personally

His family has suffered several traumatic events in the past months.  In October of last year Tropical Storm Stan flooded the parsonage and church where the Martinez family live and pastor was flooded.  Then in February Bro. Martinez was diagnosed with cancer.  He was operated on twice in May and then had 42 radiation treatments.  The doctors gave them a good report after the radiation treatments.

However about 3 weeks ago he returned to the doctor with more symptoms.   They operated again, removing a large abscess.

Then last week he developed a new pain in his back - upon further tests they discovered that the cancer has reappeared.  He began Chemo treatments last night.

There are 2 areas in which we are asking for your help.  #1 is to pray.  We believe that God can heal and make this cancer disappear completely and forever.

#2 They do not have medical insurance.  I know that the Martinez family already have outstanding loans for $10,000.00 from the operations in May. Plus they have the new medical costs of the surgery three weeks ago, the hospitalization and Chemo treatments that he is undergoing now.  These costs are high. Anything that you would like to give toward this great need would be greatly appreciated.

Please mark your offering Guatemala Superintendent.  I will be traveling to Guatemala on Tuesday of next week to visit with and pray for Bro. Martinez.

Hebrews 4:16  "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

Please join with us in prayer for this great servant of God.
