User Reviews about PS3 Blu-Link Universal Remote Control

This is the first review I have ever written. I was so thrilled about being able to set this remote up in less than 5 minutes that I had to let people know. Logitec and PS3 adapter would have cost 3x as much. I'm very happy! -- Blu Link - great product
I actually bought this for my wife for Christmas. Yeah, I know, who buys a remote for their wife on Christmas. Well she hated using the controler to watch a movie and having several different remotes floating around was really annoying. I REALLY didn't want to spend $80 for this thing as I was thinking $80 for just a remote?!? But once she opened it up and we got it all set up it is just great!! We were able to find codes for most of our stuff but even programing for remotes manual wasn't that bad. It was almost fun. I kid you not, I have this thing even controling my ceiling fan. I will admit the clicking noises the remote makes when your pushing buttons does get on my nerves a bit but it must just be me as nobody else seems to notice it.

I am very happy with this remote. :) -- This remote is awesome
Ah! finally, a remote that works with my ps3. This is the best remote ever and setting it up was surprisingly easy. -- Best Remote Ever
First of all let me attest that I am employed at a Best Buy, so take it or leave it, I am at least familiar with electronics and the routes to finding solutions when I encounter a "problem child".

Secondly, this remote WORKS GREAT and it is a real bargain considering what else is out there. On the one hand you have the Harmony remotes, awesome as they are, but they require a blutooth adapter since they are all IR remotes and the total package will almost always set you back close to or well over one hundred dollars depending on what remote you get (Harmony has several models). Then there is the remote that Playstation/Sony puts out. It works, but, sadly, it only works for the PS3 and cannot control any other devices. It costs about the same as this blulink remote. There are also several off-brand remotes that you could consider, but I will just get to the point and say that this is easily THE BEST VALUE for the money.

IT IS EASY TO SET UP. There, I said it for you. Calm down. It has both auto searching and manual input. Both do not require a technical genius and you can set up a whole system (six devices)in under 20 mins.

*****Now. There have been some issues with this remote and I am happy to say that after my own experience I feel that I have most of them solved.*****

Firstly, there was a firmware update that the older remotes in this line needed to work with the PS3 Slim model (Firmware updates are software upgrades or patches that help a system "evolve" so that it can better function - think anti virus software on your computer and how it needs updates). The company that makes this remote no longer puts out remotes that have the old firmware on them. It is much, much more likely that you will buy a remote that has the new firmware update already installed and ready to go. A quick call to their customer service (18886963500) can get your problem solved if you require the firmware update.

The second problem that I have run into (the one I had) is very simple and nobody's fault. The batteries are running low. You can tell if you have this problem if you keep re-linking your remote to the PS3, it works for half an hour and then stops. The reason behind this is blutooth signals are not generated using light like your typical IR (infrared) remote, they are radio waves. As a result, to send them out much more power is needed. Rest assured, your remote will not run out of power after 50 or even 100 uses, but the batteries in the package that came with the remote may have lost their potency while sitting in a warehouse. Simply get yourself two AA's and you have your problem solved.

I hope this helps some of you, I noticed some reviewers were having problems so I decided to put this up for them. -- Your remote got the blues?
I got this controller because I was tired of using the DualShock 3 to watch movies, and wanted something that could control my other components as well. This controller accomplishes all of that at a very reasonable price, although there are some minor gripes.

My first gripe is with the buttons, they could be a bit bigger and spaced out a bit more (maybe a bit wider). I have big hands, so I still hit the wrong button on occasion. This problem has become less of a nuisance as I've gotten more and more used to the controller. Also, a dedicated eject button would have been nice, too.

Overall, the controller is pretty sturdy, but for some reason whenever I hit the "3" or "6" button on the number pad I feel it flex and hear it creak. I'm not Lou Ferrigno, so I know I'm not pushing that hard on it. Not that big of a deal, though.

Lastly, I've run into the issue of the controller not turning the PS3 on. I'm not sure what might be causing this. It has only happened twice in the month I've owned it.

As for the syncing issues, I haven't run into them. That's because I was well aware of the problem before I bought this, so whenever I watch something on my PS3 I make sure to hit the "TV" button and then switch back to bluetooth whenever I need to.

Despite the gripes, this controller is definitely worth the money. It was easy to setup devices with the included codes and everything is working as it should. Also, I no longer have a bunch of controllers all over the place and can comfortably watch movies on my PS3 now. Hopefully the company decides to release a new and improved version down the line.

My Setup:
40GB PS3
Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HDC cable box
32" Panasonic Viera TC-L32S1 -- Good Universal Remote, could use some improvements
